Edit 'Multiple' Features simultaneously and add Move, Rotate, & Scale

Currently, only one feature may be edited at a time.  I would like to suggest the ability to simultaneously edit 2 or more features.

  1. Use the Command or the Shift key to select 2 or more features, and once selected click the 'Edit Feature(s))' icon, or press 'Return' on the keyboard to enter active edit mode.
  2. Move - In the same manner that a single feature is moved(highlighted points), so may a user move all, or a portion of the points on two or more features.  Unlike the following items, the existing Move tool would be used.  At the present time, it is not possible to constrain movement to vertical or horizontal only(e.g.- move on meridians or parallels... left to right or top to botom, north to south or east to west) , thus I would also suggest this be added(using a keyboard/mouse combination).  A text field would be handy to add numerical values such as feet/meters(distance to move).
  3. Rotation - At the present time, rotating a single feature is not possible, much less multiple features.  Thus, I would also suggest this option be included in this request for editing multiple features, as well as adding this capability to the existing single feature editing.  Similar to applications like Photoshop, when the mouse cursor is hovered just outside of the feature points, the Rotate tool is activated, and the mouse changes state, providing visual indication of such(see attached mock-up 'Edit_Multiple_Features_Rotate').  Using a keyboard mouse combination for fine control, user may rotate in single degrees(360 total), otherwise the tool has magnet stops at 180, 90 degrees, and 45 degrees, and perhaps also has a text field to enter even more precise values.
  4. Scale - At the present time, scaling a single feature is not possible, much less multiple features.  Thus, I would also suggest this option be included in this request for editing multiple features, as well as adding this capability to the existing single feature editing.  This should include a keyboard/mouse combination for constrained scaling.  I would also suggest field input to add numerical values, such as percentage, feet/meters, etc.(e.g.- scale up 100 meters)  See the attached mock-up 'Edit_Multiple_Features_Scale'.

Thank you,

After thoughts/additional consideration:

  • By default, the Rotate tool should use the respective selected feature point(mouse-over, mouse-down) as the center axis for rotation.  Or, using a keyboard/mouse combination, the user can select(mouse-down) any part of the feature, at which point that becomes the axis around which rotation occurs.
